چکیده

Purpose: To review drusen and sub retinal drusenoid deposits in age related macular degeneration as regards their pathogenesis, morphology, differentiation and their importance as regards the visual prognosis of age related macular degeneration (AMD). Results: Each type of drusen or drusenoid deposits has a different visual prognosis, and the differentiation of them using multimodal imaging tests is important for the management of age-related maculopathies. Methods: Review of the above mentioned items based on published data. Conclusion: Multimodal imaging tests can differentiate different types of drusen and sub retinal drusenoid deposits, including their atypical forms, with consequent ability to foretell the prognosis in the various forms of presentation of AMD.

Drusen Imaging: A Review

Drusen represent the hallmark of non-exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Drusen vary in their location within the retina, ranging from sub-retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) drusen and sub-neurosensory retinal drusenoid deposits above the RPE (or pseudo-drusen). In this paper, we review the rapidly advancing imaging techniques currently available to better correlate drusen volume to...

Assessing the cone photoreceptor mosaic in eyes with pseudodrusen and soft Drusen in vivo using adaptive optics imaging.

PURPOSE To investigate the cone photoreceptor mosaic in eyes with pseudodrusen as evidenced by the presence of subretinal drusenoid deposits (SDD) and conventional drusen using adaptive optics (AO) imaging integrated into a multimodal imaging approach. DESIGN Observational case series. PARTICIPANTS Eleven patients (11 eyes) with pseudodrusen and 6 patients (11 eyes) with conventional drusen...

Subretinal drusenoid deposits in non-neovascular age-related macular degeneration: morphology, prevalence, topography, and biogenesis model.

PURPOSE To characterize the morphology, prevalence, and topography of subretinal drusenoid deposits, a candidate histological correlate of reticular pseudodrusen, with reference to basal linear deposit (BlinD), a specific lesion of age-related macular degeneration, and to propose a biogenesis model for both lesion. METHODS Donor eyes with median death-to-preservation of 2:40 hours were postfi...

The Association Between Subretinal Drusenoid Deposits in Older Adults in Normal Macular Health and Incident Age-Related Macular Degeneration

PURPOSE Subretinal drusenoid deposits (SDD) have been associated with the progression to late age-related macular degeneration (AMD). To determine whether SDD in eyes in normal macular health increases risk for early AMD, this study examined the association between presence of SDD at baseline in a cohort of older adults in normal macular health and incident AMD 3 years later. METHODS Subjects...

Macular Atrophy Development and Subretinal Drusenoid Deposits in Anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Treated Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Purpose To explore the association between presence of subretinal drusenoid deposits (SDD) at baseline in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) with the development of macular atrophy (MA) during anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy. Methods There were 74 eyes without pre-existing MA receiving anti-VEGF therapy for nAMD for 2 years or longer analyzed....
